Patient Requirements for Medical Cannabis
Just because you suffer from one of the above conditions doesn’t mean that you can head out to the nearest dispensary or caregiver to get your bud. There are several requirements that you must meet, they include:
● Must be a Nevada resident
● Attending physician must be licensed in Nevada
● Must be diagnosed with a debilitating or chronic medical condition
● Physician must inform patients about risks and benefits of medical marijuana
● Must have documentation from attending physician that states that marijuana can help treat your illness
● Must have a valid identification card issued by the State of Nevada
● Cannot control, operate, or drive a vessel or vehicle while under the influence of cannabis
● Cannot lawfully have a firearm in possession while under the influence
● Must not possess or use cannabis or related paraphernalia in public
● Cannot knowingly deliver cannabis to someone without a registration card
What is A Cannabis Caregiver?
A cannabis caregiver is someone who is responsible for your health and safety. In order to be a medical cannabis caregiver, the individual cannot be arrested, prosecuted, or subject to legal sanctions for possession, cultivation, or delivery of cannabis. Furthermore, they must be chosen by the patient and have a registration identification card issued by the State of Nevada. Other requirements include:
● Must be at least 18 years of age
● Must be responsible for the care and wellbeing of the registered patient
● The patient must designate them as their primary caregiver, this includes buying the marijuana and overseeing the dosage and frequency of use
● Must have a registry identification card from Nevada for the specific patient
● Cannot possess, produce, or deliver more than 12 plants or 2 1/1 ounces of cannabis in a 2 week period
● Must be a resident of Nevada
● Must pass a background check
● Must be approved by a physician
● Can only buy up to 2.5 ounces every 2 weeks and only from a designated dispensary
● Can grow up to 12 plants until a dispensary opens up in the county
